Reporting

Venture backed startups – well run ones, anyway – have no shortage of reporting. Quarterly board meetings, monthly board calls, regular contact with the venture investors are all standard practice.

Earlier stage companies may not have found the right mix of what matters in reporting but they generally get there. There are some great resources for entrepreneurs such as Bessemer’s [LINK] Ten Laws of Cloud Computing and SaaS, or this suggestion from Brad Feld to move to an interactive board deck.

At CLP we view the quality of reporting as one indication of the quality of governance. Companies with strong governance have quality reporting and we are happy to receive what has already been put in place. This generally means getting monthly financials and a copy of the board deck.
